At approximately 7 pm, the Lake Carmel Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident where a car had veered off the highway, collided with a tree, and ignited. Responding units were updated that the vehicle may still be occupied. First arriving responders confirmed a working car fire. Chief Kenny Launzinger assumed command upon arrival and instructed the first engine to start extinguishing the fire. It was determined that the vehicle was still occupied, prompting the Chief to request additional support from a mutual aid tanker and rescue. Patterson Fire Department arrived to provide assistance with fire suppression and extrication of the victim. Emergency crews remained on the scene to support the New York State Police as they investigated the cause of the accident.
